Area Attractions

Hiking and Climbing are extremely popular in Mineral County. One-day summits include San Luis Peak, a Colorado fourteener. More moderate routes include Deep Creek Trail, Shallow Creek, and the Wheeler Geologic Area.

Horseback Riding is an integral part of the area’s Western heritage. Freeman’s Ranch and Cottonwood Cove offer visitors half-day and full-day rides, giving you extraordinary views of the high country.

Running and Biking enthusiasts have numerous opportunities to explore hundreds of miles of unimproved roads and single-track trails. Bachelor Loop is a local favorite!

Hunting and Fishing opportunities in southern Colorado are legendary. Trophy elk and mule deer, Gold Medal trout waters at the headwaters of the Rio Grande, hundreds of high mountain lakes, and plenty of creeks attract people from around the world!

Rafting the Rio Grande is a fun activity for the whole family! Mountain Man Rafting provides guided tours throughout the summer.

Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding at Wolf Creek Ski Area is not only known for having the most snow in Colorado but for its affordable prices. Less than an hour from Creede, Wolf Creek has terrain for the beginner to expert. For the Cross Country Skiing enthusiast, Mineral County has many miles of groomed trails.

Ice Skating and Pond Hockey is free and available at two ponds north of town. Come in January for the annual pond hockey tournament!

Snowmobiling trails for riders are plentiful, and many enthusiasts “Ride the Divide.” With our vast expanse of National Forest and State recreation areas, you can find more than 85 miles of groomed trails, connecting you with Lake City and South Fork.
