What would you do for two million dollars?
In this sidesplitting farce á la Some
Like It Hot, broke actors Leo and Jack
must impersonate lost cousins Maxine and
Stephanie, in order to inherit a great fortune.
Their simple plan turns farcical, however,
when Leo falls for his new cousin Meg even
as Jack finds himself hopelessly attracted
to the local delivery girl. In the meantime,
reports of their aunt’s death have
been greatly exaggerated, and nobody knows
where the fortune will fall!

To Fool the Eye
An Adaptation of Jean
Anouilh’s Leocadia
By Jeffrey Hatcher

To Fool the Eye is based on a
literal translation by Stephanie L. Debner.
This adaptation was originally commissioned
and produced
by the Guthrie Theater, Joe Dowling, Artistic Director.

This whimsical comedy fuses the best of
classical love and modern humor into a truly
delightful tale. After losing the object
of his affection, Prince Albert spends his
nights hopelessly revisiting the scenes of
his romance. Fortunately, Albert’s
aunt the Duchess may have found the solution.
A young hat maker named Amanda happens to
be the perfect look-alike for Albert’s
lost love. If she can only be convinced to
play the part, Albert may have his love again
if only for a few days. Then again, maybe
love will offer them both a second chance.

This Tony award winning musical has taken Broadway
by storm with its melodious magic. Imagine a town
not too different from our own, except for one
major aspect of daily life: a water shortage has
made private toilets illegal! Everyday the hard-pressed
citizens of the city stand in line to pay a fee
for the public facilities. Anyone who can’t
pay the fee is sent to the horrible and mysterious
Urinetown. To save his fellow citizens, Bobby Strong
finally leads the rebellion against Urine Good
Company. But what follows? Well, the ending is
a surprise, but we guarantee that Urinetown will
leave you singing!

Pygmalion
by George Bernard Shaw

Presented by special arrangement with Samuel French,
Inc.

Before My Fair Lady, Eliza Doolittle
conquered the polite society of England and our
hearts in G. Bernard Shaw’s most beloved
play Pygmalion. As long as Eliza speaks
like a commoner, she will never be able to work
in a flower shop. When she goes to Professor Henry
Higgins, however, he wagers that he can not only
lift her off the streets, but that he can elevate
her right up to the aristocracy. With delightful
supporting characters such as Colonel Pickering
and Eliza’s father Alfred Doolittle, Pygmalion good-naturedly
asks us, “Who is the teacher in this play?”

Everything in the Garden
by Edward Albee

Everything in the Garden was
first presented by Theater 1968 at the
Plymouth Theatre, in New York City, on
November 29, 1967.
Presented by special arrangement
with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

In 1967 Edward Albee’s Everything in
the Garden premiered to critical success
in New York City. Forty years later, we find
that, though it is rarely produced, its characters
and themes have even more relevance to our lives
today. Richard and Jenny struggle, as most of
us do, to maintain their quality of life. When
Mrs. Toothe brings Jenny an alternative solution
to her financial strife, the story turns from
suburban to subjection. Albee’s alternately
humorous and savage play attacks the hypocrisies
of middle-class standing even as it forces us
to admit that we all have a part to play in the
garden.

Bad Dates
By Theresa Rebeck

A co-production with the
Modern Muse Theatre Company
Denver, Colorado • www.modernmusetheatre.com
Presented by special arrangement with Samuel French,
Inc.

A co-production of Modern Muse Theatre
and Creede Repertory Theatre, Bad Dates features
CRT company member Diana Dresser. In this
funny and insightful show, Dresser plays
Haley, a single mom in New York City with
a teenage daughter and an insatiable love
of shoes. Haley’s idiosyncratic journey
of self-discovery involving the Romanian
mob, a Buddhist rainstorm, and a few very
bad dates enjoyed an extended run Off Broadway,
and we are excited to include it in our
2007 season.

Boomtown: Improvisational
Comedy at CRT

Near the end of the 2006 season, I asked
Maurice LaMee about creating an improvisational
comedy troupe at CRT. To my delight,
he responded enthusiastically and Boomtown was born. It had always surprised
me that a theatre with the stylistic flexibility
of CRT didn’t offer improv. We tell
stories in so many ways: musicals,
period comedies, westerns, farces, contemporary
dramas, puppet shows, and Shakespeare—why
not one without a script? Well, that’s
Boomtown.
We’re a group of actors
performing a heretofore untold story
spontaneously in front of the audience,
guided only by their suggestion and our
imaginations. Humor is a huge part, but
it is also our goal to tell a complete
story with fascinating characters. Just
like a play, only shorter, and we can’t
tell you what it will be about. It might
involve music, unrequited love, Vikings,
dental insurance, or Viking dental insurance.
You won’t know
until we perform it—and neither will
we.
